Racines @ Sofitel Singapore City Centre
Located at level five of Accor’s Sofitel Singapore City Centre, in Tanjong Pagar - Racines restaurant serves up French and Chinese cuisines.
The perimeter of the restaurant is surrounds by full glass panes which brings in lots of natural lighting and views of the surrounding landscape. The interior is spacious and chic with several sofa seats in the middle.
While waiting for our orders we were served some bread, nothing to shout about in terms of quality but still a nice touch to have.
The French dishes we tried were the Foie Gras Terrine, Lamb Rack and Braised Wagyu Beef Cheek. The latter the best dish among the three as the beef check has the correct doneness which was balanced in flavours.
The Chinese dishes we tried were the Sweet And Sour Pork, Crab Meat Fried Rice, Hokkien Mee and Hainanese Chicken Rice. The wok hey was missing from the fried rice and especially so for the Hokkien mee. Though the Sweet and sour pork was decent, the chicken rice was disappointing in terms of flavours.
Desserts was a trio of Executive Chef Sam’s Paris Singapore Brest, Cointreau Souffle** and Moelleux. Despite being named after the Chef, the Paris Brest felt like it has been left out too long with the choux pastry losing its fluffiness. The Souffle however was good and saved the day.
Overall several hits and misses for the food, albeit being on the pricey side. The service and ambience is very good. If you have an Accor Plus membership, they currently have a 50% discount off ala carte menu items until further notice.
