Staycation @ ParkRoyal Collection Marina Bay

Earlier this year, some friends and I organized a staycation cum birthday celebration for a bestie at ParkRoyal Collection Marina Bay (formerly the Marina Mandarin Singapore). After coming out of the level 4 lift towards the reception area, guests are greeted with lush greenery and bird cage like pavilions as they walk across the Atrium Sky Bridge.<

I stayed in a Lifestyle Room (33 to 35 sqm) which came with a city view. I have stayed once before when the property was still Marina Mandarin Singapore and got a room facing the marina bay area, so I decided to try the city view this time around.

The design of the room is minimalistic and clean, with lots of wooden accents. It also comes with an outdoor balcony if you want to soak in the surrounding views. A nice touch I felt was the small seating area near the door for guests to sit down to change their footwear.

The difference between the Urban Room and Lifestyle Room is the latter comes with a daybed (alcove by the window). Perfect for lounging during the day with family and friends.

Perhaps the hotel is still “new” with not many guests having stayed there (i.e. pre-pandemic times) but I found the bed to be too hard and did not get a really good night’s sleep.

The Muji Japanese inspired room design is likewise evident in the partial see-through wardrobe cabinet.

While the rooms were refreshed by ParkRoyal Collection, the bathrooms on the other hand retained most of the dated Marina Mandarin design (i.e. the shallow bathtub, toilet bowls and small claustrophobic shower area). The sink area did get a refresh with water filters installed to discourage the use of disposable plastic bottles. I personally would have preferred the water filter to be installed in the main bedroom away from the odours in the bathroom.

Sadly the swimming pool area was still under renovation when we stayed, as the club lounge is being relocated right beside it.

The breakfast service at Peppermint was disorderly. It took more than 30 mins for most of our orders to arrive and a couple orders went missing! They have a limited selection of Asian and Western cuisine, nothing over the top, which pales in comparison to what was offered at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore.

The main selling point of this hotel is the unbeatable location, with easy access to shopping malls (Marina Square, Suntec City, Millenia Walk), attractions (Esplanade, Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands, Fullerton Bay) and connectivity via MRT stations (City Hall, Esplanade, Promenade). Perhaps once all refurbishment works have been completed and quality of service improved would I come back for another staycation.
