La Vie @ Jalan Besar
A couple weeks back, when I chanced upon an Instagram story showcasing an adorable hedgehog shaped dessert at a new patisserie in Jalan Besar, I had to head over and see if it tastes as good as it looks.
La Vie was previously known as Reverie Patisserie, an online patisserie shop specialising in cakes and butter cookies.
The interior of the cafe is simple, consisting primarly of white and greys. The cafe walls are decked with paintings by local artists, doubling as a showroom for interested customer to purchase art pieces which they fancy.
One of the signature cakes is Chloe - lychee mousse, rose sponge, lychee popping boba. The mousse is light and sponge moist, coupled with the bursts of exploding “boba”, made the experience thoroughly enjoyable, the lychee flavours were on point.
The Kaiser - mango mousse, passionfruit sponge, mango bits, mango popping boba is similar to Chloe, with the use of spherical pearls. While the popping was as pleasant, however the mousse itself felt gelatinous overall the mango flavour did not feel balanced
The Strawberry Tart was ok. While the tart base was not soggy, it however lacked somewhat in firmness and the filling is separated from the base once a cross section is cut.
Following the served in a flowerpot type of dessert trend, their Bailey Tiramisu - espresso and baileys soaked ladyfingers with mascarpone zabaione, is a visual treat on the eyes. The tiramisu is light and the fluffiness of each bite is delightful.
The Brownie is served warm and perhaps could be a little more moist.
And finally it was time to try Epic - triple chocolate mousse, crispy hazelnut dark chocolate feuilletine, brownie sponge. If you are a chocolate lover like me, this cute porcupine shaped creation is not overpoweringly sweet and left me wanting at least another serving.
While there are hit and misses in their offerings, I would certainty come back again to try new cakes on their menu.
